Community open house slated for April
In about a month Cowley College will be hosting its first open house in a long time. It will be held Tuesday, April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. The theme of the evening is the Wonderful World of Cowley.
“It will [be] like the Wonderful World of Disney,” said Sue Saia vice president of student affairs, “people will receive tickets to visit areas of campus.”
For community members that might not be able to walk great distances around campus, transportation has been arranged.
Six academic departments will be open for community viewing along with several other areas of campus like the cafeteria and the Wellness Center. “A total of 16 venues [will be open to the public],” said Saia.
The Board of Trustees supported the idea of an open house.
“There was discussion by our Board of Trustees that it would be a good idea to allow our citizens an opportunity to come see the campus,” said Patrick McAtee, president of Cowley College.
No reservations are needed, and the starting point for community members is the Earle N. Wright Community Room located inside the Brown Center at 124 S. 2nd St.
Live entertainment, presentations, student showcases, campus tours, and refreshments will be available during the open house.
“Staff members will probably ask their students to help out with their department activities,” said Saia.
Many teachers and staff members are excited about the event.
“People are excited, we all here at Cowley feel like what we have is very special,” said Saia.
The planning is finished now and everything just needs to be put into motion. There is only one real concern among Board members.
“Our biggest concern is getting people to come,” said Saia.
If it is successful “we want to continue to provide this opportunity if it is viewed as a positive event by all,” said McAtee.
