The making of a graduate - 2006
BY SARAH DONNELLY For students who plan to graduate this spring, the deadline for their degree application will soon be here along with the need to enroll for the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP). The degree applications are available in the registrar’s office, and all spring graduates need to fill one out. Two other items that students will need to hand in with the application are a degree check, making sure that all degree requirements have been fulfilled, and a $25 non-refundable check. The degree application deadline for students graduating in the spring is March 1. Registrar Forest Smith said, “It is necessary for students to turn in their degree application; if they don’t, then they don’t graduate.” You can pick up the application in the registrar’s office or print it online. Also, students who will be graduating with an associate of arts degree, associate of science degree, or general studies degree need to enroll for the CAAP assessment, and then write down the testing date on the graduation application. The CAAP assessment consists of three parts: math, writing skills, and reading. Each part of the assessment is 40 minutes long, creating a three-hour assessment. “Students need to remember that the assessment is not a pass/fail test, but they need to try to do their best,” Smith said. If you have any questions concerning either of these items, contact the registrar’s office.
