For the third consecutive year The Cowley Press was awarded All Kansas at the 2006 spring conference for the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press. The award recognizes The Cowley Press as the top two-year college newspaper in the state.

The KACP conference, which took place April 9-10 at the Wichita Airport Hilton, gave students the opportunity to hear a number of speakers who presented information about journalism careers.

The awards ceremony also recognized individual students from across the state for their achievements. Those awarded from The Cowley Press were as follows:

Jared McGuire: first in review writing, first in news photography, second in feature writing, second in column writing, third in front page design. Chansi Long: first in series writing, second in review writing

James Kasparek and Jessica Demel: first in photo essay

Mary Ast: first in sports news writing

Brady Bauman: second in sports news writing

William Earls: second in special section

Philip Roth: third in editorial cartoon

Victoria Ukaoma: third in editorial writing

“I was very pleased with the results of KACP,” said Managing Editor Jared McGuire. “Not only did we get the All-Kansas but the staff won a great deal of awards. As an editor it’s good to know you have a talented team working with you.”
