| Wheeling and dealing contestants win $3 to $97 May 8, 2008 BY COURTNEY CRAIN Assistant Editor Straight from NBC prime time television, complete with flashing lights, signature music and 32 beautiful models, came the popular game show Deal or No Deal. On Wednesday, April 30, six students were given the opportunity to be a contestant and win up to $200 in prize money. Students were given tickets at the door that made them eligible to be one of the Deal or No Deal contestants. Sophomore Alex Skov filled the role of Howie Mandel and 32 girls from across campus were the models. At the beginning of each game, the contestants picked one of the 16 cases to keep for themselves. The cases held denominations ranging from $1 to $200. The contestant began opening cases to find out if the case they picked was holding a large amount of money. At the end of each round, the banker called Skov to make an offer to buy the case. The contestant then had the chance to make a deal and take the money the banker offered, or reject the deal and continue opening cases for a chance at the large prize money. Freshman Thomas Govert filled the role of the banker. Five of the six contestants declined all of the banker’s offers and played the game to the end. Sophomore Emily Zimmerman narrowed her cases down to the last two, one holding $3 and one $200. Zimmerman took a chance and was disappointed to find the $3 in her case, instead of the $200.“I could have really used the $200, especially with the price of gas,” Zimmerman said. The crowd participated in games, trying to sway the contestants by yelling phrases such as “Deal,” “No deal,” and “Pick number 5.” Director of Student Life Kristi Shaw organized the event. She wrapped up the evening by giving away cash prizes to audience members. The Cowley Press is produced by the Newspaper Production students.
