Thursday Night Live was an event that showcased Act One’s writing, directing and acting abilities as well as the many voices of the CC Singers.
The show did not run last year because of the Shakespeare show, but this year the groups had more time available to put TNL together.
In order to keep it similar to Saturday Night Live, the show had a host as well as musical guests.
Fresh from hosting “Deal or No Deal” the night before, sophomore Alex Skov was asked to host this year’s show.
“I think he did awesome,” said director and manager of the event Lacey Bauman. “He’s a great improviser.” [more]

Mindless Self Indulgence: Can't shut them up

They’re disgusting, they’re loud, they’re obscene, they’re ruled by their libido: what is there to dislike about Mindless Self Indulgence?
Mindless Self Indulgence, or MSI, are like the greatest [legal] drug, laced with industrial grooves, hip-hop bass lines and all those things you wanted to say to your ex, but couldn’t out of courtesy.
Luckily on June 10, MSI will be in Wichita at The Cotillion with The Birthday Massacre and Tub Ring to promote their latest album, If. MSI fans have been yearning for a follow-up album to You’ll Rebel to Anything (As Long as It’s Not Challenging) that contained the hits “Straight to Video” and “Shut Me Up.”
Beyond the realm of VNV Nation and Tommie Sunshine remixes, MSI delivered If, a baby that sounds like it’s been listening to Skinny Puppy and Wu-Tang Clan albums in the womb.
The Birthday Massacre, a popular synth-rock band, are releasing the EP The Looking Glass on May 6, so you can expect to see brand new songs. Imagine Trent Reznor as a sexy goth girl and you’ve got The Birthday Massacre, not to mention way catchier. [more]

Caked with Dorito dust, dripping with self-tanner and clad only in boxers, six hundred guys wait for one thing: a roll in the hay with aging porn diva, Cassie Wright.
Ms. Wright plans to set the world record for the greatest number of sex acts in one film. This filthy, gorgeous plot could be managed only by Chuck Palahniuk in his latest novel, Snuff.
Palahniuk, writer of the bestseller Fight Club, later turned into a feature film starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton and soon to be released film adaptation of Choke set out to do what he does best: shock you and keep you in paralysis long enough to be close to dead by the end of his composition. Cowley sophomore Sarah Davidson walks out onto the Brown Theatre stage and quietly sits down in front of the piano.
She is about to play five pieces of music, starting with Chopin Op 66, No. 2. This performance is a culmination of the past two years of her work at Cowley.
“Well, I guess you could say that I have been working on it for the past couple years with my instructor Steve Butler,” said Davidson.
“The recital is very important to me because I am a music major and I need the experience performing so that I am well prepared when I transfer to WSU,” Davidson said.
Davidson is followed by fellow sophomore Sarah Richardson, who goes through the same ritual except that her talent is a voice she has cultivated for the past four semesters. She’s accompanied by her vocal instructor, Connie Donatelli, on the piano. [more]
The look and feel of summer right in your closet

Spring brings many things; one of the most fun happens to be fashion shows and with them lots of new trends. While some trends this year might be a bit crazy, there are ways to make them work in real life.
Figure it out: The first step is to look at your personal style. Are you sporty?
Casual? Girly? It’s always possible to follow trends without selling out.
What’s in: A major trend right now is bright colors. To work in the “real world” start out slow and small until you’re comfortable with the new crazy loud colors. Bright blues and pinks flatter almost everybody’s skin tone, but stay away from bright yellow if you are unsure of what looks good on you. While wearing bright colors, the biggest ‘don’t’ is pairing them with black. This is a look best left in the 80s. [more]

There wasn’t a glass slipper, a prince or a dragon. P.S. I Love You is less cliché than most chick flicks; it is not just a sappy love story, and it hit DVD shelves on May 6.
Million Dollar Baby star Hilary Swank returns in the more feminine role in P.S. I Love You. Swank plays Holly, a young widow of former Irish musician, Gerry, played by Gerard Butler.
The movie opens with an argument between Gerry and Holly concerning her mother, Patricia, played by Kathy Bates. After they fight and make up, the opening credits play. The next scene is Gerry’s funeral held in Patricia’s bar, with Gerry’s choice of vulgar Irish music and, alcohol. [more]
